Port Jefferson History and Nature Center

Where engaging programs bring history & nature to life.

The Port Jefferson History & Nature Center is a hands-on, outdoor learning center and environmental park promoting habitat restoration along the historic riverfront in Jefferson, Texas. Educational programs, activities and outreach projects demonstrating the importance of history and nature are available to visitors. Programs are developed and managed by the Collins Academy team.

Outdoor Learning

Collins Academy students enjoy instructor-led, outdoor learning experiences at the Port Jefferson History & Nature Center. Participants explore natural habitats and historic areas, and learn about invasive species, habitat restoration and local wildlife.

History & Nature Center Walking Trails

The nature park features walking trails that highlight historic locations in the area. Visitors are always welcome. Guided, historic tours are available. [ view an interactive trail map ]

Restoration & Preservation of Historical Sites

The Port Jefferson History & Nature Center is made possible through key partnerships and community involvement.

Paddlefish Project

The Paddlefish Project is an innovative science enrichment program that networks schools with scientists to study the reintroduction of the American Paddlefish to Big Cypress Bayou and Caddo Lake. The program provides interactive, educational experiences for students and community.
